Sumatra PDF is one of those programs that’s been around for years and just keeps quietly getting better. The latest version added a feature that its longtime users will love: Ctrl + K opens a searchable command palette — a fast way to run any of Sumatra’s built-in actions without touching the mouse.

The tip: type to filter instantly

Press Ctrl + K and your cursor lands directly in the search bar. Start typing a few letters and Sumatra instantly narrows the list — showing only commands that begin with, or contain, those characters. No scrolling required.

For example, type zo and only Zoom-related commands appear, highlighted in yellow so you can spot your match at a glance.

  • Zoom out
  • Zoom to fit page Ctrl+Shift+F
  • Zoom to fit width Ctrl+Shift+W
  • Zoom to actual size Ctrl+1
How to open it: Press Ctrl + K in Sumatra PDF. Your cursor is already focused in the search box — just start typing immediately. Press Enter to run the highlighted command, or use the arrow keys to move between results first.

Bonus: the Dracula theme

🧛 Dracula — the best Sumatra theme

The default Sumatra light theme can make PDFs blend into the interface. The Dracula theme creates a much stronger contrast between the document and the background — making it easier to read for longer sessions, especially in low light.

One shortcut, two letters, zero scrolling. Ctrl+K then type — it’s one of those tiny workflow improvements that quickly becomes second nature.
