Enable and Use Windows 11 Live Captions, Join Wi-Fi with QR Codes, and Install the 25H2 Update: Step-by-Step Guide

In-Depth Guide to These Windows 11 Tips

Turning On Live Captions from the System Tray

Windows 11 can display real-time subtitles for any spoken audioโ€”videos, calls, musicโ€”using Live Captions. While the keyboard shortcut Windows key + Ctrl + L toggles captions on and off, you can also enable them through Quick Settings:

  1. Click the Quick Settings icon in the lower-right corner of your taskbar.
  2. In the panel that opens, scroll until you see Live captions.
  3. Click the Live captions button so it lights up blue.
  4. A confirmation banner appears at the top of the screen. Click Yes, continue to grant permission.

Once enabled, a resizable caption window appears. You can drag it anywhere, change its font size, or silence it if you want only text. Live Captions run entirely on your PCโ€”no internet connection is needed.

Joining a Wi-Fi Network with a QR Code

If a trusted Wi-Fi hotspot provides a QR code, Windows 11 lets you connect without typing a password:

  1. Open the Camera app from your Start menu or by searching โ€œCamera.โ€
  2. Point your laptopโ€™s camera at the networkโ€™s QR code.
  3. When a notification appears, click it.

Windows reads the embedded SSID and password, then joins the network automatically. Only codes formatted for Wi-Fi connections will work. This is handy in cafรฉs, hotels, or conference venues that share QR-based network access.

Installing the Windows 11 25H2 Feature Update (Insiders)

If youโ€™re enrolled in the Windows Insider program, you can preview the final build of the 25H2 feature update before it reaches the wider public. Note that 25H2 doesnโ€™t add new featuresโ€”it bundles all enhancements released since 24H2โ€”so itโ€™s essentially a cumulative roll-up. To install:

  1. Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Windows Update in the left pane.
  3. Toggle on Get the latest updates as soon as theyโ€™re available.
  4. Click Check for updates.
  5. After Windows finishes updating to the most recent 24H2 patches, youโ€™ll see Windows 11, version 25H2 listed.
  6. Click Download & install, then click Restart now when prompted.

Caution: Major feature updates can occasionally introduce stability issues. Last yearโ€™s 24H2 rollout caused widespread driver and performance problems. If you rely on your PC for critical work, consider delaying the public 25H2 rollout until third-party support and patches mature. You can pause updates in Settings โ†’ Windows Update โ†’ Pause updates for up to 5 weeks.

These tips help you access new Windows 11 conveniencesโ€”real-time captions, QR-based Wi-Fi login, and early access to cumulative updatesโ€”while keeping your system stable and secure.
