Scan and Edit PDFs on Your Phone for Free with PDFgear Scan
Digitizing documents and signing forms used to mean running to a scanner or printer. Now you can do it all from your phone in just 30 minutes using PDFgear Scan. This free app for Android and iOS handles multiple document types, merges pages, extracts text, and adds signatures—no printing required. Here’s how it works.
What You Need
- Your smartphone (Android or iOS)
- PDFgear Scan app (free)
Download PDFgear Scan:
- Android – Get it on Google Play
- iOS – Download from the App Store
Step 1: Capture Your Document
- Open PDFgear Scan and tap the button for the type of document you want to scan (Receipt, Document, Photo, etc.).
- Lay the paper flat in good light and point your camera at it. The app will highlight the edges in blue when it detects the document.
- Hold steady and tap the shutter button to capture the scan.
Step 2: Add More Pages
- After each shot, tap the thumbnail in the bottom-right corner.
- Swipe through thumbnails and tap Crop to trim unwanted edges on each page.
Step 3: Merge Scans into One File
- To create a single long image, tap More > PDF to Long Image.
- To make a multipage PDF, tap Done, then choose Share Pages as PDF.
Pages stay in the order you captured them (first at the top, last at the bottom).
Step 4: Extract Text from Images
- Return to the home screen and tap Extract Text.
- Capture a new image or select an existing scan.
- Crop around the text and tap Done. PDFgear Scan will pull the text from the image.
- Tap Copy Text to paste it elsewhere or Export as text or Word format.
Step 5: Sign a PDF on Your Phone
- Transfer a PDF to your phone or open one from an email.
- In PDFgear Scan, tap + on the toolbar and select your PDF.
- Tap Sign. If you haven’t added a signature, tap Create Signature, draw it, and tap Save.
- Tap your saved signature to place it on the document, drag to adjust, then tap More > Share as PDF to save or send.
