How to Block the New Outlook in Windows 11 and Keep Classic Outlook Forever

How to Block the New Outlook and Keep Classic Outlook on Windows 11

Why Block the New Outlook?
Microsoft’s 24H2 update for Windows 11 can auto-migrate Classic Outlook users to the new Outlook interface—even if you don’t want it. You can stop that migration and stay with the familiar Classic Outlook.

Steps to Revert or Stay on Classic Outlook

1. Update Outlook Classic

  • Open Classic Outlook.
  • Click File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now.
  • Restart Outlook after the update completes.

2. Hide the “Try the New Outlook” Toggle

  1. Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  2. Back up your registry (File > Export > select All > save).
  3. Navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General
  4. Right-click in the right pane, choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, name it:
    HideNewOutlookToggle
  5. Double-click it, set Value data to 1, and click OK.

This removes the toggle so you can’t accidentally switch to the new Outlook.

3. Prevent Using the New Outlook Interface

  1. In the same registry editor, go to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences
  2. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) named:
    UseNewOutlook
  3. Ensure its Value data is 0.

This tells Outlook not to switch to the new interface.

4. Block Migration During the 24H2 Upgrade

  1. Still in regedit, navigate (or create missing keys) under:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences
  2. Create a DWORD (32-bit) named:
    NewOutlookMigrationUserSetting
  3. Set its Value data to 0.

This prevents Windows 11 from migrating your profile when moving to 24H2.

After these changes, your system will keep using Outlook Classic. You can safely update Windows 11 without losing the legacy Outlook interface.
